About the role
The Team Leader, Escalations Review is a senior position within the Strategy and Engagement Division of Victim Assist. Reporting to the Chief Executive as a Government assessor under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009, you will lead a small team responsible for reviewing complex victim assistance decisions and ensuring compliance with strict legislative timeframes.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and report on workloads, adjusting priorities to meet legislated and ministerial deadlines.
- Provide advice on complex decisions that may be reviewed by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
- Demonstrate and develop cultural capability in line with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander connections.
- Liaise with senior executive offices and external victim advocacy groups to prepare high‑quality correspondence for the Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support.
- Oversee workflow management to ensure timely, evidence‑based decision making under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
- Lead and mentor a team of senior liaison and review officers, handling complex operational and policy issues.
- Represent Victim Assist at QCAT hearings and identify process improvements for greater efficiency.
- Assist the Relationship Manager with financial, HR, and performance management activities, including succession planning and coaching.
Required profile
- Demonstrated cultural capability and commitment to inclusive practices.
- Experience in senior liaison, legal review, or administrative law decision making.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships across government and non‑government sectors.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills for a team of decision makers.
- Ability to interpret and apply the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
