Systems Engineer – Research and Innovation

About the role

Saab Australia is seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team delivering advanced defence technologies, concept demonstrators and rapid prototypes. You will work alongside experienced systems, software and specialist engineers to design, develop, integrate and validate R&D capabilities across multiple technology domains.

Key responsibilities

• Develop systems engineering artefacts for defence R&D, proof‑of‑concept and rapid prototyping programmes.
• Elicit and analyse stakeholder requirements to deliver fit‑for‑purpose capability outcomes.
• Support system architectures, requirements baselines and technical data packages.
• Collaborate with product owners, defence delivery teams and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Participate in technical reviews, design reviews and stakeholder workshops.

Required profile

• Experience across one or more stages of the systems engineering lifecycle.
• Understanding of systems engineering principles, processes and methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a practical mindset.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Required skills

• Development of technical documentation and engineering artefacts.
• Collaboration within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
