Staff Front-End Engineer – Design Systems

About the role

Canva is looking for a Staff Front‑End Engineer to lead the evolution of its design system across web and mobile platforms. You will shape a portable UI platform that powers a universal component library, enabling a seamless experience for millions of monthly active users.

Key responsibilities

• Own the portable UI platform and ship shared React components that run on both React DOM (web) and React Native (mobile).
• Abstract cross‑platform complexity into the design‑system layer, providing product teams with portable‑first capabilities.
• Define standards for building, distributing, and consuming portable components at scale for over 800 engineers.
• Mentor engineers through design and code reviews as the organization shifts from web‑first to cross‑platform development.
• Collaborate with product teams across Canva to prioritize work, ensure adoption, and guide strategic technical direction.

Required profile

• Proven experience building large‑scale front‑end systems, preferably in a fast‑growing tech company.
• Strong architectural mindset with the ability to design abstractions that serve multiple platforms.
• Excellent communication skills to influence cross‑functional teams and drive adoption.
• Passion for creating high‑quality, reusable UI components that scale globally.
