About the role
Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design, development and deployment of autonomous capabilities for uncrewed aircraft. The role combines hands‑on software engineering with robotics, perception and path‑planning to deliver real‑world AI pilots.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement autonomous behaviours for uncrewed aircraft.
- Develop robust sensor‑fusion solutions using real sensor data.
- Build and test autonomy systems in high‑fidelity software‑in‑the‑loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulations.
- Integrate Shield AI autonomy products with third‑party aircraft and systems.
- Collaborate across AI, robotics and systems‑engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to architecture, code quality, design reviews and best practices.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers.
Required profile
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Aerospace, Robotics or a related field.
- Significant professional experience in robotics, autonomy, perception or aerospace systems.
- Strong experience with modern C++.
- Proven ability to build and deliver reliable software systems in fast‑paced environments.
