Specialist Technician – Systems Engineer for School IT Support

About the role

Bytewize is seeking experienced Systems Engineers / Specialist Technicians to provide technical support to Victorian schools through the Department of Education’s Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role can be contract, casual or permanent and offers a salary of $90,000‑$110,000 pro‑rata.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain ICT infrastructure across Department of Education schools.
• Administer and support school networks and server environments (Windows, Linux, Hyper‑V).
• Provide ICT support in large, technology‑driven learning environments and assist staff and students.
• Deliver ICT professional development and training to school leadership teams as required.
• Deploy and manage cloud services (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365) and mobile device management solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior‑level IT support experience, preferably within the TSSP, education sector, or large corporate environments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, PR or permanent visa), a current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to undergo police and background checks.

• Hyper‑V virtualization administration.
• Windows and Linux server administration.
• Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 cloud service administration.
• Mobile Device Management (MDM) deployment and administration.
• Enterprise networking (Cisco & HP switching, Cisco wireless controllers and APs).
• Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and image deployment with advanced troubleshooting.
• Support for large fleets of desktops, notebooks, 1:1 and BYOD device planning.
• Technical documentation.
