Specialist Technician – Systems Engineer for School ICT Support

About the role

Bytewize is seeking experienced Systems Engineers / Specialist Technicians to deliver ICT support to Victorian schools through the Department of Education’s Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role can be taken on a contract, casual or permanent basis and involves managing complex school IT environments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain ICT infrastructure across Department of Education schools.
• Administer and support school networks and server environments (Windows and Linux).
• Provide ICT support in large, technology‑driven learning environments, including 1:1 and BYOD initiatives.
• Deliver professional development and ICT training to school staff as required.
• Collaborate with school leadership teams to ensure reliable service delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior‑level IT support experience (TSSP, education sector, or equivalent corporate environment).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem‑solving, escalation and communication skills.
• Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, PR or permanent visa) and a current driver’s licence.
• Willingness to undergo police and background checks.

• Hyper‑V virtualization administration.
• Windows and Linux server administration.
• Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 cloud service administration.
• Mobile Device Management (MDM) deployment and administration.
• Enterprise networking with Cisco and HP switching equipment.
• Cisco wireless controllers and access points.
• Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and image deployment with advanced troubleshooting.
• Support for large fleets of desktops, notebooks, and mobile devices.
• Planning, deployment and management of 1:1 and BYOD device programmes.
• Technical documentation creation.

What we offer

• Salary range $90,000 – $110,000 (pro‑rated) AUD per year, top rates based on skills and experience.
