Sonographer - Medical Imaging

About the role

The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is recruiting an experienced and motivated Radiographer (Sonographer) for its Medical Imaging Department at Nepean Hospital, one of New South Wales' largest and fastest-growing tertiary referral hospitals. The role sits within a multidisciplinary team and covers diagnostic imaging modalities, with the post holder primarily based at Nepean Hospital but possibly rotating to BMDAMH to provide service cover.

Pay is $80.18 per hour, with up to 35 hours per week, on rotating shifts Monday to Friday and some weekend on-call cover from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Applications close on 09/11/2026.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging services and provide advanced clinical leadership within the department.
• Mentor and support junior staff and students.
• Contribute to service improvement initiatives and promote safe, evidence-based patient care.
• Work with Radiologists, Medical Specialists, Nurses and Allied Health professionals to deliver timely and accurate imaging.

Required profile

• Degree in Medical Radiation Science in Diagnostic Radiography and a recognised Sonography qualification.
• Registration with AHPRA as a Medical Radiation Practitioner.
• I14 Radiation Licence from NSW EPA and registration with ASAR.
• Ability to supervise, instruct and mentor other MRS' and undergraduates.

Required skills

• High standard of knowledge, clinical experience and proficiency in ultrasound across a broad range of examinations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
