About the role

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing Victoria is seeking a Solicitor to join its Care Leaver Claims team. Working with minimal supervision, you will provide strategic, practical legal advice and representation on civil proceedings related to historical institutional abuse, personal injury, and special projects.

Key responsibilities

Deliver well‑reasoned legal advice, briefings and correspondence to internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with departmental colleagues to ensure client‑focused legal services.
Instruct and manage litigation across a range of courts and tribunals.
Interpret statutes and advise on administrative law matters.
Support the strategic management of the civil claims portfolio through policy and procedural guidance.

Required profile

Australian citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid work permit/visa.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative and maintain effective relationships across the department.
Willingness to undergo pre‑employment screening, including national police and misconduct checks.
