Solar & BESS Design & Commissioning Engineer

About the role

A leading renewable energy developer and EPC contractor is expanding its utility-scale renewable energy portfolio across Australia and Southeast Asia and is seeking a Solar & BESS Design & Commissioning Engineer. The role covers the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and project development through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, energisation and handover. Hands-on experience with both Solar PV and BESS projects is required, with BESS expertise considered essential.

Key responsibilities

• Support engineering design of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects, including technical calculations, equipment specifications and design documentation
• Review single line diagrams, protection and control philosophies, cable sizing, earthing and lightning protection, auxiliary electrical systems, SCADA and communications interfaces, and EPC design packages
• Contribute to feasibility assessments, concept and detailed design reviews, and technical due diligence
• Support project development, tendering and bid submission, and work with business development, commercial and project development teams on new opportunities
• Evaluate vendors for solar modules, inverters, BESS, EMS and balance-of-plant equipment
• Support commissioning, FAT, SAT, energisation, system integration testing and performance verification, and troubleshoot technical issues during construction and commissioning
• Ensure compliance with Australian and international standards, contribute to quality assurance and maintain technical documentation and lessons-learned records

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum 4-5 years of experience in renewable energy, power systems or utility-scale infrastructure projects
• Proven experience delivering utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects across design, construction support, commissioning, energisation and handover
• Strong understanding of power systems, grid-connected renewable assets and electrical balance-of-plant systems
• Experience in multidisciplinary project teams with developers, EPC contractors, consultants, utilities and equipment suppliers
• Experience in Australia and/or Southeast Asia highly regarded
