Software Engineer – Mission Critical Systems

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Software Engineer to develop and enhance software capabilities for complex Defence and mission‑critical programs. You will work in an Agile, multidisciplinary team delivering simulation software that supports system analysis, verification and operational decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and integrate features for a modern microservices‑based distributed system using Golang, TypeScript, Python, Kubernetes and Docker.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, test engineers, subject‑matter experts and customers to translate operational requirements into high‑quality software solutions.
• Support verification and validation of Defence capabilities by creating software components, interfaces, tools and test cases, and analysing outputs.
• Improve engineering practices through peer reviews, automated testing, configuration management and Agile delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software design, development, integration, testing and troubleshooting in complex environments.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, able to work with cross‑functional teams and engage stakeholders.
• Australian citizenship and NV‑1 security clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Golang, TypeScript and Python (or comparable languages).
• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Use of Git or equivalent source‑control systems and participation in peer‑review processes.
