Software Engineer II – Azure Core Storage

About the role

Microsoft’s Azure Core Storage team is looking for a Software Engineer II to design and implement system software that powers storage virtualization for Azure Virtual Machines. You will work on a platform that handles trillions of I/O operations daily across a global data‑center fleet.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain system software components such as device drivers, libraries, telemetry services, and diagnostic tools.
• Define clear interfaces, conduct code reviews, and use telemetry data to guide design decisions.
• Ensure components are modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, and actively monitored.
• Deploy cloud‑scale solutions rapidly and monitor health through telemetry.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), participate in on‑call rotations, and lead incident response.
• Continuously improve system quality, availability, and performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in coding with languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
