Software Engineer – 4-month contract

About the role

Join Leidos Australia’s engineering team to design, build and operate enterprise monitoring and observability solutions using the Elastic Stack. You will work alongside senior engineers and architects to improve system visibility, incident investigation and operational resilience across a range of platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain monitoring configurations that collect logs, metrics, traces and events from enterprise systems.
• Build and enhance Kibana dashboards, visualisations, alerts and reports for proactive monitoring and performance analysis.
• Create scripts and automation to streamline monitoring deployment and recurring operational activities.
• Use observability data to support troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement of monitoring coverage.

Required profile

• Demonstrated software engineering capability with experience in scripting and system integration.
• Ability to analyse system behaviour, investigate technical issues and communicate findings clearly.
• Collaborative mindset to work with software engineers, platform teams, DBAs and operational stakeholders.

Required skills

• Python, PowerShell or JavaScript scripting.
• Understanding of operating systems, networking, virtual machines, containers or cloud services.
• Familiarity with relational or non‑relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Knowledge of Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats or Elastic Agent.
• Experience with Linux or Windows administration.
• Exposure to Azure, AWS or Google Cloud and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Ansible, Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Splunk or AppDynamics.
