Software Development Engineer – AWS Networks

About the role

Join the AWS Infrastructure Services team in Sydney to design, implement, and operate software‑defined networking solutions that power the global AWS backbone. You will work with a hybrid team of software, systems, and network engineers to build automated, scalable services for one of the world’s largest networks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain distributed system software for the AWS network backbone.
• Collaborate with network, systems and software engineering teams across the US, Ireland and Australia to roll out new designs and products.
• Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation, troubleshoot incidents, and improve fault tolerance.
• Use data‑driven metrics to ensure service quality, performance, cost and security.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to scope and drive solutions across multiple teams.
• Experience working in an agile, startup‑like development environment.
• Willingness to mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.

Required skills

• Software development for distributed systems.
• Experience with software‑defined networking (SDN) concepts.
• Proficiency with AWS services and automation tools.
