Software Developer – Justice Department

About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Developer to build, improve and support technology that underpins Victoria's justice system. You will create reliable applications that enable staff to deliver essential public services, working with modern tools and experienced colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Develop secure Java web applications using JBoss, SQL Server and reporting tools.
• Gather clear business requirements and produce technical documentation, test plans and system specifications.
• Conduct thorough testing, resolve issues and provide ongoing maintenance and minor enhancements.
• Assess technical risks, contribute to system design and help raise technology standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑departmental teams, share knowledge and support after‑hours releases when required.

Required profile

• Relevant ICT tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
• Training or certifications in relevant applications or specialist products (desirable).
• ITIL Foundation qualification is highly regarded.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities, collaborative mindset and adaptability to changing priorities.
