Senior Systems Engineer - Naval Ship Design

About the role

Leidos Australia's Gibbs & Cox team provides naval and marine engineering expertise for Australia's maritime enterprise, supporting major naval programs and emerging maritime technologies across ship design, engineering, systems integration, acquisition and sustainment. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the team by delivering outcomes that matter, working with Commonwealth, Navy and industry stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Review technical deliverables, plans and engineering outcomes, and advise senior project engineering stakeholders on technical issues and solutions.
• Coordinate systems change across the ship design, including technical data management and systems change management through the end of design and into production.
• Support engineering change and technical risk management, assessing design and production issues, system characteristics, likely performance and compliance with technical requirements.
• Support design integration through verification and validation, finding practical solutions that meet Engineering Directorate requirements.
• Build relationships with Commonwealth, Navy and industry stakeholders to influence outcomes and support project decisions.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship, and eligibility to obtain NV1 security clearance.
• Experience in maritime or naval projects demonstrating strong systems engineering capability in complex programmes.
• Experience in requirements management, engineering change management or verification and validation (V&V), preferably during build, test and acceptance stages.
• Sound understanding of ship design, build and operations, and the implications of engineering decisions.
• Ability to work independently in a complex Defence environment with limited guidance.
• Strong technical judgement and communication skills, able to explain complex issues to senior stakeholders.
