Senior Systems Administrator

About the role

Industrial Light & Magic is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support Linux and storage infrastructure across on‑premises, remote data‑centre and cloud environments. The role focuses on storage, backups and render infrastructure for the Sydney studio, serving over 1,000 users.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
• Provision, configure and maintain organisation‑wide storage, backup and render servers.
• Monitor and maintain physical and logical systems, collecting data to report on health.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies through a ticketing system, ensuring rapid resolution.
• Work independently and collaboratively on administrative and technical projects.
• Document processes and stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum two years of systems administration experience.
• Team player with the ability to work autonomously.
• Self‑starter with a DevOps mindset and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Flexible working hours, capable of handling pressure and lifting up to 50 lb.
• Strong organisational, troubleshooting and communication skills.

• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, link aggregation, routing).
• Network services/protocols (DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SMB, NFS).
• Modern hardware, virtualization and cloud computing.
