Senior System Engineer

About the role

Hanwha Defence Australia is seeking a Senior System Engineer to lead systems engineering activities for complex defence projects. The role involves planning, scheduling, and delivering engineering work packages while ensuring compliance with client expectations on design, budget and schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients, engineers and staff to deliver project requirements.
• Support the project engineering team to meet objectives and deliver engineering artefacts on time.
• Manage engineering activities within agreed schedules and budgets, following established processes.
• Conduct regular progress and design meetings and report on systems engineering status.
• Lead requirements development, traceability, and control across all levels.
• Maintain Functional, Allocation and Physical Baseline (FBL, ABL, PBL) documentation.
• Perform systems engineering tasks such as requirements analysis, system safety, integration, trade studies, configuration audits, verification and validation.
• Conduct risk analysis, identify key risks and ensure mitigation.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and internal teams to ensure high‑quality deliverables.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (post‑graduate in Systems Engineering desirable).
• Meets Engineers Australia criteria for Chartered Professional Engineer.
• Professional experience in systems engineering within the defence industry, preferably on large‑scale programmes.
• Familiarity with military standards and vehicle development regulations is a plus.
