Senior Software Engineer – 9‑Month Contract

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Defence ICT team on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. The role provides technical leadership for designing, developing and integrating software within a complex Defence ICT delivery program.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development and integration of software components aligned to system requirements and architecture.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Oversee development of data processing, synchronisation and core services.
• Support system integration across software, infrastructure and networking components.
• Lead verification, validation and testing activities to meet acceptance criteria.
• Drive fault analysis and remediation to achieve system readiness.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software engineering within complex ICT environments, preferably Defence or government.
• Strong programming expertise in Java, Python or C++.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
• Full‑lifecycle software development experience (design, build, integration, test, deployment).
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and communicate with stakeholders.
