Senior Risk Assurance Specialist

About the role

The Senior Risk Assurance Specialist supports ANZ’s second‑line risk assurance function by delivering independent, high‑quality reviews of material risks across the bank. Working under the guidance of the Manager and Head of Risk Assurance, you will help ensure that control environments are effective, sustainable and aligned with regulatory expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Execute risk assurance reviews in line with approved plans, methodologies and quality standards.
• Perform independent testing of key controls (design and operating effectiveness) across operational, compliance, conduct, technology and financial‑crime risk areas.
• Assess the effectiveness of risk and control environments, documenting clear, evidence‑based findings and conclusions.
• Validate issue and remediation closure through evidence review, testing and assessment against regulatory obligations.
• Identify control weaknesses, gaps and sustainability concerns, escalating as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails to support assurance conclusions.
• Draft concise assurance deliverables, including working papers, testing summaries and reports.
• Support governance‑ready reporting by analysing themes, root causes and residual risk.
• Respond to requests for assurance evidence to support governance forums and regulator engagement.
• Collaborate constructively with first‑line risk owners, Compliance and Internal Audit to achieve effective assurance outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in risk assurance, internal audit or related risk functions within the banking sector.
• Strong understanding of operational, compliance, conduct, technology and financial‑crime risk domains.
• Ability to design and execute control testing and produce evidence‑based findings.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on robust documentation and clear reporting.
• Effective stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
• Capability to work under the guidance of senior risk assurance leaders.
