Senior Protection & Control Tester

About the role

CitiPower Powercor delivers electricity to 1.3 million Victorian customers and is hiring experienced Field Testers / Senior Field Testers (Protection & Control Testers internally) to be based in its Brooklyn depot. The team is field-based and responsible for maintaining, operating and commissioning protection, control, metering and communications equipment at zone substations, EHV terminal stations, distribution substations, HV customer installations and pole-top assets.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, operate and commission electrical plant, protection, control, metering and communications equipment in line with OHS legislation and customer procedures.
• Investigate malfunctions and carry out repairs and testing to improve reliability.
• Use test equipment correctly and understand the operation of relays and other equipment.
• Complete field reports accurately and on time, and uphold quality and customer service charters.
• Build client relationships and provide on-the-job leadership to project teams.
• Coordinate projects, mainly secondary systems, including resources and equipment.

Required profile

• Testing and commissioning experience of primary and secondary equipment in transmission, substation and distribution environments, on greenfield and brownfield sites.
• Proven experience testing electrical plant and protection and control systems up to 500kV.
• Sanction for Test authority (SFT) and competence in using IT systems such as SCADA, GIS, EDNAR, RESIS, Google Enterprise and ENMAC.
• Understanding of outage planning, incident management and work practices for primary and secondary equipment testing.
• Full working rights in Australia are mandatory; relocation assistance may be offered but no sponsorship is available.

Required skills

• IEC-61850 protocol
• Omicron and Doble test gear
• Advanced Diploma (ESI Power Systems) or equivalent, ESI Worker card, refresher training, construction induction card and high-risk licences
