Senior Project Accountant

About the role

Cairns Airport is looking for an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join its Finance Team, reporting to the Financial Controller. The role provides senior technical accounting expertise and supports financial reporting, assurance and controls across the NQA Group.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate half-year and annual statutory financial statements.
• Coordinate year-end external audit activities with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
• Carry out financial reporting readiness and assurance activities so balances, transactions and reconciliations are accurate and review-ready.
• Review key financial controls, identify gaps and support improvements.
• Support month-end activities, including reconciliations, journals and accounting entries.
• Partner with the Financial Controller on projects to strengthen financial controls and end-to-end processes.
• Improve accounting procedures, finance systems and workflows, and contribute to key Financial Control projects.

Required profile

• CPA or CA qualification, or working towards it.
• Minimum of three years' experience in a commercial accounting position, ideally in a mid-sized organisation.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
• Well-developed interpersonal, relationship-building and influencing skills, and demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, customer service and continuous improvement.
• Unrestricted right to work in Australia and ability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card.

Required skills

• Strong ERP and accounting software skills; SAP or TechnologyOne experience highly regarded.
• High competency in Microsoft Excel and well-developed computer skills.
