Senior Power Systems Engineer

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Senior Engineer to join its Power Systems team in Brisbane. You will lead technical studies for renewable generation and storage projects, delivering solutions that meet Australian market requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and execute grid‑connection studies for generators, battery energy storage, solar and wind farms in line with AEMO, NSP and NER standards.
• Develop and validate RMS and EMT models for inverter‑based resources and network assets.
• Perform load‑flow, fault‑level, dynamic stability, system‑strength, harmonic and EMT analyses.
• Prepare technical reports and support R0/R1/R2 modelling and GPS compliance.
• Interface with developers, OEMs, network service providers, AEMO and other stakeholders throughout the connection process.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and quality assurance for study deliverables.
• Support project development, due‑diligence and advisory services for renewable and transmission projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ years of power‑systems engineering experience, preferably in the Australian NEM.
• Professional accreditation such as RPEQ or CPEng.
• Proven experience delivering grid‑connection studies for renewable, BESS or transmission projects.
• Strong knowledge of the National Electricity Rules, AEMO requirements and Generator Performance Standards.
• Excellent technical report writing, stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Project management and client‑facing consulting experience.

Required skills

• Power system software: PSCAD, PSS®E, PowerFactory, EMTP.
• RMS and EMT modelling of inverter‑based resources.
• Load‑flow, fault‑level, dynamic stability, harmonic and EMT analysis techniques.
