Senior Mining Engineer - Kalgoorlie Underground

About the role

Northern Star, an ASX 50 global gold miner with operations in Western Australia and Alaska, is recruiting a Senior Mining Engineer for its Kalgoorlie Underground Technical Services team at the Kanowna Belle Underground Mine. Reporting to the Underground Manager, the role leads a technical team of scheduling, project, drill and blast and graduate engineers and drives safe production. It sits on an 8/6 roster of 12-hour days, either residentially in Kalgoorlie-Boulder or fly-in fly-out from Perth, and can include alternate Underground Manager duties.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate daily mining activities so that production physicals are achieved according to schedule.
• Lead and mentor the team of Drill & Blast and Ventilation Engineers.
• Act as Deputy Underground Manager when the Underground Manager is absent.
• Prepare the three-month rolling forecast with the Underground Manager, Drill and Blast Engineers, Short Term Planning Engineers, Project Manager and Mine Foreman, and review changes at the monthly Mine Planning meeting.
• Ensure mine development and stoping designs are completed on time to meet weekly targets.
• Review and approve production drilling and charging plans, and develop work plans for the Mining Department.
• Monitor progress against plans and goals, and propose and implement improvement and infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate stope reconciliation, end-of-week and end-of-month summaries and reports.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of underground hard rock mining experience.
• Experience with a mining contractor and in a mine using sub-level open stoping and back filling.
• Underground mine rescue experience.
• First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency and an unencumbered WA C-class driver licence.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to hold teams accountable.
