Senior Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Specialist

About the role

Onterris is seeking a Senior Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Specialist to join its Assessment and Approvals team in Brisbane. You will lead technical studies and provide specialist input for mine rehabilitation and closure projects across Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans, Rehabilitation Management Plans, Mine Closure Plans and Closure Execution Plans.
• Lead multidisciplinary studies covering final landform design, waste rock and tailings management, mine water management, erosion modelling, growth medium assessment, revegetation strategies and rehabilitation monitoring or certification.
• Provide technical leadership and capacity‑building across the business on mine rehabilitation and closure matters.
• Conduct site visits to collect data and advise clients on environmental management, rehabilitation planning and mine closure.
• Identify market opportunities, prepare proposals, budgets and tender documents.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in consulting or operational rehabilitation management.
• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Restoration Ecology, Geochemistry, Geology, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
• Expertise in rehabilitation planning, approvals and management for the Queensland resources sector.
• Working knowledge of international closure standards and Australian state‑based environmental legislation and policies.
