Senior Medical Practitioner - Psychiatry

About the role

A Senior Medical Practitioner in Psychiatry is sought to support the eating disorders and women's mental health service at Cockburn Health, a standalone psychiatric and addiction facility with 50 beds including 8 for eating disorders. The position is permanent full-time, though fixed-term arrangements with possible extension or permanency may be considered. You will work alongside consultant psychiatrists, general practitioners, registrars and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the mental health assessment, treatment and management of clients, including providing service to their families and carers
• Champion patient safety and quality of care
• Partner with other agencies to promote close community partnerships
• Provide orientation, training, supervision and education where relevant for Doctors in Training and other health workers
• Work to achieve national, state and SMHS performance standards and targets
• Work within the scope of clinical practice defined by the SMHS Area Medical Credentialing Committee
• Work on a roster including weekends and after-hours work based on operational requirements, under the Medical Practitioners Agreement

Required profile

• Valid Australian work rights; permanent appointments may be made to citizens, permanent residents or visa holders
• Current CVA statement addressing the essential criteria in the JDF, no more than 2-3 pages
• Names and contact details of two current referees
• Criminal records screening and integrity checking, and possibly a working with children check and pre-employment health assessment
