Senior Medical Evaluator, Prescription Medicines

About the role

The Prescription Medicines Authorisation Branch (PMAB) evaluates applications for new prescription medicines, new uses of prescription medicines and variations to registered medicines. The Medical Officer (Class 3) undertakes critical evaluations of complex clinical data and evidence supporting these applications, giving clinical and scientific advice and preparing evidence-based recommendations for registration and variation on the ARTG. This is a 12-month labour hire contract with extension options, based in Northside with free parking on site.

Key responsibilities

• Support timely prescription medicine assessments and uphold regulatory decision-making so Australians can access safe, effective medicines.
• Evaluate complex clinical data and evidence submitted with prescription medicine applications.
• Provide clinical and scientific advice and prepare evidence-based recommendations for regulatory decisions on registration and variation.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship.
• Medical qualification and registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
• Experience in a health, regulatory or scientific environment, preferably in medicines regulation, is highly desirable but not essential.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of TGA's legislative and administrative frameworks, decision-making processes, guidelines and regulations.
• Balanced, informed decisions using evaluation, analysis and professional judgement.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Organisational and time management skills, including prioritising competing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to adapt to new systems and processes.
