Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturer of bespoke equipment in Melbourne. The role involves leading product development from concept through to production, ensuring high‑quality engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept designs and detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, Inventor or Fusion 360.
• Produce accurate technical drawings and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) entries.
• Manage the full product lifecycle, coordinating with manufacturing providers and internal teams.
• Perform hand calculations, verification, validation, FEA, testing and prototyping.
• Update MRP system with parts data and create final assembly documentation.
• Ensure projects meet deadlines, budgets and technical specifications.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong theoretical knowledge of core engineering principles and tolerance management.
• Proven ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Fusion 360.
• Experience designing with sheet metal, machined parts and injection‑molded plastics.
• Competence in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and prototype testing.
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and BOMs.
