Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Heavy Machinery

About the role

The client, a global leader in high‑performance mechanical transmission systems, is seeking a senior‑level Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Sydney team. You will lead the design of complex heavy‑machinery components, from concept through detailed engineering, while collaborating closely with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model advanced gearboxes, heavy winches and power transmission systems for industrial applications.
• Produce detailed layout variants and engineering drawings, ensuring material selection and budget compliance.
• Maintain design‑tracking systems and manage technical delivery of multiple major projects simultaneously.
• Provide high‑level technical support to cross‑functional teams, delivering flawless drivetrain solutions.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and internal sales/engineering teams to resolve complex design issues.
• Develop and sign off technical manuals, Manufacturer’s Data Records and quality documentation.
• Continuously expand technical knowledge through study, professional development and occasional domestic travel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 10+ years of advanced CAD design experience with expert proficiency in SOLIDWORKS.
• Proven track record designing industrial gearboxes, heavy winches and mechanical transmission components.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, heavy materials, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritize critical engineering tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
