Senior Lawyer

About the role

A full-time Senior Lawyer position advertised by Justice, with reference QLD/706175/26 and closing on 17 November 2026. The role is assessed against the Legal Professional Competency Framework for Crown Law, covering litigation, legal advice, drafting, statutory interpretation, research, client relationships and practice management.

Key responsibilities

• Litigation: conduct litigation strategies in complex and sensitive matters, represent clients in mediations or hearings, prepare and present submissions, and give guidance on advocacy, conduct, ethics and etiquette
• Legal advice: give strategic advice on significant or urgent issues, manage and review advice from external providers, and independently identify and advise on legal risks
• Drafting: draft and settle significant or high-value documents, resolve complex drafting interpretation issues, and review the drafting work of juniors
• Statutory interpretation: resolve complex interpretation problems, weigh competing readings and apply an advanced understanding of the legislative process
• Research: lead large or multi-issue research tasks, ensure clear and timely results, and guide others in evaluating research findings
• Client relationships: lead management of key client accounts, balance service with commercial considerations, and handle difficult negotiations including debtor management
• Practice management: coach juniors on file management and billing, keep practice precedents up to date, mentor staff on ethics and governance, and recommend improvements to systems and processes
