Senior Java Engineer

About the role

As a Software Engineer in the BFS Connectivity team, you will design, build, and maintain the highly available platform services and environments that power our API externalisation layer. You will operate at the intersection of robust backend engineering and modern DevOps practices to ensure third‑party integrations are seamless, secure, and resilient.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain highly available platform services for API externalisation.
• Implement scalable micro‑services using Spring Boot and ensure observability and cloud readiness.
• Deploy, monitor and optimise distributed applications on Google Cloud Platform or equivalent public clouds.

Required profile

• Hands‑on expertise with Java 21+ and modern language features.
• Strong experience designing micro‑services with Spring Boot, focusing on scalability and resilience.
• Practical experience with GCP, AWS or Azure, including deployment and performance tuning.
• Proficiency with relational and cloud‑native distributed databases, data modelling and query optimisation.
• Experience building event‑driven services using Google Pub/Sub or comparable messaging systems.
• Testing mindset covering unit, integration and performance testing.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and environment configuration management.
• Experience supporting production environments, incident analysis and improving system reliability.
