Senior IT Domain Specialist - Splunk ITSI Observability

About the role

Telstra is recruiting a Senior IT Domain Specialist focused on Splunk ITSI observability, supporting Defence environments. The role leads the design, delivery and ongoing lifecycle management of observability, monitoring and service intelligence capabilities, establishing reliable, secure and actionable visibility across platforms, services and integrations. It also drives the transition of observability capability from externally delivered support to an internally owned model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex Splunk and ITSI observability solutions across Defence environments
• Own observability architecture, service modelling standards and the platform roadmap
• Design, develop and maintain ITSI services, KPIs, correlation searches, notable events and health views
• Build and optimise dashboards, alerts and reporting views for incident response and service assurance
• Oversee monitoring coverage of critical integrations, including interface health and performance trends
• Manage upgrades, patching, release planning, configuration management and optimisation
• Drive automation of monitoring, alerting and validation processes
• Support the transition of observability capability to internal teams, with knowledge transfer and documentation
• Mentor specialist and associate engineers and influence stakeholders across engineering, operations, security and service management

Required profile

• Eight or more years of experience delivering, operating or optimising observability, monitoring or operational support platforms, with strong preference for Splunk and ITSI
• Security clearance: AGSVA NV2
• Experience in both platform delivery and production support environments
• Exposure to secure or regulated environments such as Defence is highly desirable

• Splunk ITSI service modelling, KPIs, notable events and health scoring
• Splunk enterprise architecture, administration and platform optimisation
• Data onboarding, parsing, indexing and source integration
• Correlation searches, alert tuning, dashboard development and DevSecOps practices
• Agile and system lifecycle management, release governance and change control
