Senior iOS Engineer

About the role

Real Time Data is looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to help build Deckhand, a highly configurable, offline‑first mobile application used by commercial fishing fleets worldwide. The role involves working on a custom workflow engine that runs on‑device, combining Swift with a JavaScript runtime to deliver robust functionality without frequent App Store updates.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement core iOS features using Swift, UIKit and modern Swift concurrency.
• Develop and maintain the on‑device workflow engine and JavaScript runtime.
• Ensure offline‑first behavior, data synchronization across devices, and data integrity.
• Collaborate with the engineering team on architecture, code reviews and technical direction.
• Mentor junior developers and promote best practices in testing, debugging and performance optimisation.

Required profile

• Expert knowledge of Swift, UIKit and the iOS SDK.
• Proven experience shipping complex production iOS applications.
• Strong fundamentals in software architecture, testing, debugging and performance optimisation.
• Experience building resilient apps that operate with intermittent connectivity.
• Interest in distributed systems, synchronization and offline‑first design.
• Ability to work across UI, persistence, synchronization and networking layers.
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to mentor others.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
