Senior Internal Auditor

About the role

The University of Sydney is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to lead risk‑based audits across its operations. This full‑time, permanent position offers the opportunity to influence governance, improve controls, and support strategic decision‑making within a dynamic higher‑education environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality audits and reviews aligned with the Internal Audit Plan and global standards.
• Prepare clear, actionable audit reports that drive improvements and provide insights to senior leadership.
• Lead opening and closing discussions with stakeholders, communicating objectives, findings, and recommendations.
• Analyse systems, processes and data to evaluate control effectiveness and uncover improvement opportunities.
• Develop pragmatic, risk‑based recommendations to strengthen controls and governance.
• Identify inefficiencies and propose practical solutions for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Data Analytics, Commerce or related field.
• Professional designation such as CA, CPA, CIA or equivalent is desirable.
• Valid National Police Check.
• Minimum five years of internal audit experience, preferably in large, complex organisations such as higher education or the public sector.
• Proven track record of enhancing internal audit frameworks, methodologies and practices.

What we offer

• Base salary from $152,045 plus 17% superannuation.
• Full‑time, permanent role on the Camperdown Campus.
