Senior Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

This temporary Senior Infrastructure Engineer role reports to the Team Leader within a specialist infrastructure team that manages and supports a large, complex enterprise ICT environment. The engineer works across Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms, covering infrastructure support, system administration, cloud services management, automation and technical projects, with a focus on operational excellence, security and continuous improvement. The position supports critical government business operations and exposes the holder to Azure, VMware, DevOps practices and enterprise infrastructure solutions. Only applicants currently based in Queensland will be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the management of installation, maintenance and support of the ICT environment and systems.
• Build, manage and support Azure-based and hybrid infrastructure.
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using PowerShell, JSON and Bicep.
• Develop and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for infrastructure and automation.
• Manage virtual environments across Azure and VMware.
• Implement and maintain automated patching for Windows and Linux (SCCM / Azure Update Manager).
• Manage backup and recovery solutions (Azure Recovery Services Vaults, Veeam).
• Monitor systems and respond to alerts using Azure Monitor.
• Administer Active Directory and identity-integrated services.
• Manage the full server lifecycle (build, patch, upgrade, decommission).
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with a focus on automation and reliability.
• Lead a responsive problem resolution service that minimises disruption and meets performance targets.
• Advise staff at all levels on the operation of the information systems infrastructure.
• Identify gaps and opportunities in service delivery, investigate solutions and propose new services.
• Manage and coordinate minor projects to implement and upgrade the IT environment.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience with the technologies listed above.
• Ability to plan and complete work to agreed timeframes, maintaining quality under pressure.
• Advanced incident management and problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication with stakeholders of varying technical and business knowledge.
• Strong stakeholder relationships and a commitment to customer service.
