Senior Human Resources Officer

About the role

The Senior Human Resources Officer will support the HR Manager in delivering comprehensive HR services across a culturally diverse, multi‑site health organisation. Working closely with HR Officers and an Administrator, you will manage the full employment life‑cycle from recruitment through to off‑boarding while ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice to managers and employees on employment legislation, industrial relations and HR best practice.
• Assist in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, misconduct handling, attendance issues and grievance resolution.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the HR strategy, frameworks and operational plans to improve recruitment and retention.
• Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and update HR policies and procedures.
• Support travel across Cape York by light aircraft or 4WD as required.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related business discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in a HR generalist role within a complex, multi‑site, culturally diverse workforce.
• Proven experience managing employee relations, performance management and grievance processes.
• Understanding of historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, especially in Cape York.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to influence senior and operational levels.

Required skills

• Experience with the ELMO HRIS (advantageous).
