Senior Highways Engineer

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Highways Engineer to help shape Western Australia's road network. The role covers major highway, arterial road, intersection and interchange projects across the state, and suits a civil engineer with proven Main Roads WA (MRWA) project experience and a strong grasp of local design standards.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake geometric design of highways, arterial roads, intersections and interchanges, including road alignments, cross-sections and earthworks
• Prepare concept, preliminary and detailed designs in line with MRWA requirements, Austroads guidelines and Australian Standards
• Produce design reports, drawings, specifications and construction packages, coordinating drainage and pavement interfaces
• Take part in road safety assessments, technical reviews and design quality checks
• Manage tasks to meet quality, budget and programme objectives, working with civil, structural, drainage, traffic and environmental specialists
• Build relationships with MRWA, local government and other clients, and support project planning, client reporting, proposals and fee estimates
• Provide construction support, including contractor queries and RFIs, shop drawing reviews and site inspections

Required profile

• Bachelor of Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification
• At least five years' experience in road and highway engineering, including MRWA projects in Western Australia
• Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or progress towards chartership
• Current Australian working rights

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the MRWA Engineering Road Note series, Design and Project Management Guidelines, Austroads Guides and Australian Standards
• Experience in geometric design for highways, arterial roads and intersections
• Ability to coordinate design interfaces and work in multidisciplinary teams
