Senior Fire Protection Designer

About the role

A specialist fire consultancy in Queensland is looking for a Senior Fire Protection Designer to move beyond sprinkler layouts into a wider role as a Fire Protection Consultant. The firm builds its business around fire engineering and fire safety, and the role suits someone who wants to take ownership of projects from concept to completion and work alongside experienced fire engineers and specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Design wet and dry fire protection systems, including sprinklers, hydrants and hose reels
• Manage projects from concept through to completion, including complex compliance requirements, Australian Standards and performance-based fire solutions
• Work with Fire Engineers, Fire Safety Consultants, Structural Fire Engineers and Dangerous Goods specialists on integrated fire safety solutions
• Manage project programmes, budgets and design deliverables, and coordinate architects and multidisciplinary teams
• Take part in client meetings and design workshops, review shop drawings, respond to RFIs and support projects during construction
• Mentor junior designers as experience grows

Required profile

• Approximately 5+ years of industry experience as a Fire Protection Designer or Fire Protection Engineer
• Previous experience in a fire consulting or fire contracting environment
• Ability to independently manage project deliverables, programmes and budgets
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Required skills

• Experience designing wet fire systems including sprinklers, hydrants and hose reels
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and relevant compliance requirements
