Senior Engineer – Tailings

About the role

Join GHD’s Queensland Tailings and Mine Waste Group as a Senior Tailings Engineer. You will work on high‑profile tailings projects across Australia and internationally, contributing to sustainable mine waste management.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailings storage facility and geotechnical designs, including foundations, embankment dam stability, hydraulic analysis, water balance, deposition planning, and groundwater analysis.
• Scope and manage geotechnical investigations to support tailings projects.
• Provide construction certification and field engineering support.
• Lead or support multi‑disciplinary teams through planning, feasibility, detailed design, construction, and closure phases.
• Conduct surveillance inspections and risk assessments to meet regulatory and client requirements.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with RPEQ, CPEng, or ability to obtain within a short timeframe.
• 6–12 years of relevant tailings engineering experience.
• Current driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GeoStudio and Muk3D for design and analysis.
• Strong technical writing for proposals and reports.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical investigation results and apply them to design.
• Experience assessing construction methods, materials, and quality standards.
• Capability to analyse tailings storage facilities under static and dynamic loads.
