Senior Developer – Developer Experience

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Developer to shape and deliver exceptional developer experiences for Westpac’s internal engineering community. You will join the polyglot team building the Westpac Mesh platform, creating AI‑enabled tooling and agentic workflows that boost productivity and software quality.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑quality APIs and microservices primarily in Java, with exposure to Node.js or Python.
• Build AI‑enabled developer tools such as search, summarisation and copilots, ensuring observability, security and appropriate guardrails.
• Implement agentic workflows to automate repetitive engineering tasks while keeping human‑in‑the‑loop controls.
• Define technical direction for the platform and mentor junior engineers.
• Identify and remove technical and delivery impediments and foster a vibrant technical community.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience as a polyglot software engineer.
• Strong background building APIs and microservices in Java.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities, including LLMs, RAG and prompt/tool design.
• Exposure to Node.js or Python.
• Desirable knowledge of public cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and SaaS technologies such as Kafka or MongoDB.
