Senior Data Scientist

About the role

Join the AI & Data Science team at carsales to drive personalised experiences for millions of customers. You will lead end‑to‑end data science projects, turning complex behavioural and automotive data into actionable insights and production‑ready machine‑learning models.

Key responsibilities

• Lead data science initiatives from problem definition through to validated, productionised solutions.
• Analyse behavioural, automotive and business data to uncover patterns and inform product decisions.
• Develop recommendation, ranking and personalisation models, including cold‑start strategies.
• Design and run rigorous offline and online experiments (A/B tests) to measure impact.
• Maintain analytical and modelling standards, ensuring reproducibility, documentation and governance.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, design and commercial teams to align priorities and communicate findings.

Required profile

• Deep technical expertise with a customer‑obsessed, curious and collaborative mindset.
• Proven track record delivering end‑to‑end machine‑learning solutions that generate measurable business impact.
• Strong understanding of experimentation, A/B testing and linking model performance to commercial outcomes.
• Excellent analytical communication skills and a disciplined approach to reproducibility and peer review.

Required skills

• Statistical modelling and machine‑learning techniques.
• Advanced programming for large‑scale data processing.
• Experience with AWS SageMaker.
• Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks.
• Use of model‑lifecycle tools like MLflow or Metaflow.
