Senior Accountant – Property Development

About the role

This senior accountant position sits within an established Melbourne property development group. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will own the accounting and financial reporting for multiple project entities and work closely with the development team on cash‑flow and funding matters.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee month‑end accounting and financial reporting across multiple project entities.
• Review journals, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and project accounting transactions.
• Coordinate BAS preparation and liaise with external advisers for year‑end financial statements and tax returns.
• Provide technical guidance and support to Project Accountants.
• Monitor project cash‑flows, funding requirements and cost‑to‑complete positions.
• Coordinate capital calls and monthly loan draw‑downs.
• Maintain and review project feasibilities and underlying assumptions.
• Review lot settlement accounting, revenue recognition and project costs.
• Partner with the Development Team to improve project reporting and forecasts.
• Analyse project performance and advise on emerging financial risks.

Required profile

• CA or CPA‑qualified accountant with strong technical accounting, financial reporting and compliance experience.
• Proven ability to manage multiple entities and tight deadlines while maintaining high accuracy.
• Experience in property development, construction or project accounting is highly regarded.
• Background in professional practice with significant property clients is acceptable.
• Experience reviewing or supporting junior accountants.
• Strong Excel skills and experience using Xero.
• Interest in cash‑flow, project funding and commercial analysis.
• Confident communicator with both finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
• Proactive, collaborative and solutions‑focused approach.
• Familiarity with Estate Master or similar feasibility software is advantageous.
