Senior Access to Information Officer

About the role

The Senior Access to Information Officer will lead the delivery of information access services across the Council, ensuring compliance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA) and privacy legislation. This senior position supports transparency, accountability and community trust.

Key responsibilities

• Lead assessment and determination of GIPA applications, including complex and sensitive requests.
• Manage informal access requests and third‑party consultations with accuracy.
• Deliver privacy outcomes such as reviews, complaints, investigations and data‑breach responses.
• Coordinate responses for external reviews (IPC, NCAT) and subpoenas.
• Maintain key resources including the Agency Information Guide and Disclosure Log.
• Provide expert advice, training and support to staff on information access and privacy.
• Drive continuous improvement of processes to strengthen compliance and service delivery.
• Oversee the Council’s proactive information release strategy.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Law with admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of NSW and a current practising certificate.
• Experience in litigation, administrative law or related legal practice.
• Strong knowledge of GIPA, privacy legislation and Australian Privacy Principles.
• Highly developed analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and organisational skills.
• Proven leadership capability to mentor and support staff.

What we offer

• Salary range $105,288.40 – $121,992.35 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
• Permanent full‑time role (35 hours per week).
• Flexible working options, including flexible start/finish times, hybrid work after probation and a 9‑day fortnight arrangement.
