Security Officer - Gatton Campus

About the role

The University of Queensland's Gatton Campus is hiring a Security Officer through its Property and Facilities Division. The role protects the people, facilities and grounds of the campus and is based at UQ Gatton, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Full-time, continuing and casual leave-coverage positions are available; the casual role provides coverage during planned leave and unexpected absences, with hours not guaranteed and shifts possibly offered at short notice.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies and other incidents as they arise.
• Lock, patrol and control access to authorised personnel across University facilities and grounds.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare accurate incident reports using established systems and procedures.
• Provide professional assistance and respond to enquiries from students, staff and the public.
• Enforce parking and traffic regulations where required.
• Escalate priority and emergency matters to the Security Supervisor in a timely way.

Required profile

• Current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations, including Security Officer Unarmed, Crowd Control, Bodyguard and Monitoring modules.
• Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 CPR certifications.
• Current Queensland manual open driver licence.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a regional campus environment.
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia; employer-sponsored work rights are not available.
• Background checks including right to work verification and a criminal history check are required.

Required skills

• Experience using security monitoring systems and preparing accurate incident reports.
• Sound judgement and decision-making in emergency and operational situations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and professionalism, tact and restraint in challenging situations.
• Experience responding to emergencies in security, operational or public-facing environments.

What we offer

• Base salary of $70,318 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 3); casual rate of $45.55 per hour including 25% loading.
