School General Maintenance

About the role

Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) is recruiting a part-time School General Maintenance worker for its Hunter School in Thornton. Hours are worked across two or three days per week on a maximum term contract starting immediately and running until the end of 2027. The role covers maintenance and repair of school buildings and grounds so that the school community has a safe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Keep building systems and machines running smoothly, such as air conditioning and pumps
• Carry out repair and maintenance on school buildings, for example replacing locks, windows and light bulbs, patching holes and repairing woodwork
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment
• Estimate repair costs and document repairs done
• Handle, store and distribute goods and materials, and move equipment and furniture as needed
• Keep the grounds tidy: mowing, pruning, weeding, planting and removing litter
• Help with school improvements such as fencing, paving and gardening projects
• Complete daily grounds maintenance reports
• Train new employees in groundskeeping duties
• Drive school vehicles when required

Required profile

• Experience in general maintenance of grounds and buildings
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and general trade maintenance
• Understanding of machinery and equipment operation related to building maintenance
• Ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team, with excellent communication skills
• Trade certification and background desirable
• Current driver's licence and use of own vehicle
• Current NSW Working with Children Check for paid employment; an international police check may be required
