Sample Preparer - Malaga

About the role

ALS is recruiting several Sample Preparers for its Geochemistry site in Malaga, supporting mining and exploration clients across Western Australia. The role is based in a warehouse where machinery is used to crush, split and pulverise mineral samples for laboratory analysis. It is a physically demanding job in a dusty environment, and previous production experience and flexibility with availability are highly advantageous.

The position is casual but requires full-time hours from Monday to Friday and willingness to work a fortnightly rotating roster: 2 weeks day shift, 2 weeks night shift and 2 weeks afternoon shift. A half-face respirator is mandatory in the dusty environment, and applicants must be clean-shaven to ensure a proper seal. Full training is provided, and there are opportunities to progress into more complex sample preparation, administration, supervisory and laboratory roles.

Key responsibilities

• Operate sample preparation equipment according to the procedures in the relevant QWIs
• Sort received samples according to the client's submission form and record discrepancies on the sample sorting sheet
• Apply barcode labels to sorted samples and enter received sample weights in the Gems interface
• Transfer scanned samples to drying racks and crush, riffle, split and sieve samples before drying at the specified temperature
• Operate pulverising mills to reach the required end-product specification
• Inform the supervisor promptly of issues such as excessively wet samples or machinery breakdowns
• Maintain machinery and equipment and keep work areas clean and tidy

Required profile

• Available to work full-time hours and full rotating rosters
• Ability to follow set procedures and excellent attention to detail
• Reliable, physically fit and able to perform repetitive manual handling tasks
• Willingness to work in a high-performance team focused on quality and safety
• Citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or able to obtain a valid working visa
