Resource Recovery Centre Operator

About the role

The Resource Recovery Centre Operator will ensure safe, efficient and customer‑focused service delivery at Hume City Council’s resource recovery facilities. You will work on a variety of shift patterns, including weekends, to keep the centre operating smoothly for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the centre in line with operational, environmental and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
• Perform site opening and closing processes, managing public access and securing the site as required.
• Inspect incoming loads, direct materials to the correct disposal points and reject prohibited items.
• Identify, separate and relocate recyclable or resale‑able items for the Recycled Goods Store.
• Control traffic of vehicles, pedestrians and plant/equipment on site.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and well‑presented facility, including litter collection and contaminant removal.
• Assist customers with material disposal, manual handling and wayfinding.
• Contribute to a safe workplace by reporting hazards, near‑misses and incidents.

Required profile

• Understanding of waste management, recycling and resource recovery centre operations.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and ability to apply safety procedures.
• Ability to identify recyclable and recoverable materials from incoming waste streams.
• Professional, courteous interaction with the public.

• Permanent full‑time and part‑time positions with a range of shift patterns.
• Salary from $90,000 to $107,000 per annum plus superannuation.
