Research Fellow – Automated Planning & Machine Learning

About the role
The Australian National University is seeking a Research Fellow to join its world‑leading Automated Planning and Machine Learning groups. The role supports the ARC project “AI Planning: The Next Generation” and will develop novel ML‑based techniques to advance state‑of‑the‑art planners for deterministic and uncertain planning scenarios.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement machine‑learning methods to improve automated planners.
- Conduct experiments on deterministic planning and planning under uncertainty.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students working on related topics.
- Publish research findings in top conferences and journals.
- Collaborate with internal and external academic, industry, and open‑source partners.
- Contribute to code bases and open‑source projects within the Automated Planning group.
Required profile
- PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in Automated Planning.
- Strong interest and knowledge in Machine Learning techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
