Registered Nurse, Surgical and Orthopaedic Assessment Unit (D6 North)

About the role

Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, covering an area of 142,900 square kilometres, is recruiting a Registered Nurse for its D6 North unit, formerly the Surgical and Orthopaedic Assessment Unit (SOAU). The unit provides multidisciplinary surgical and orthopaedic care to patients needing assessment, treatment and minor procedures. The position is permanent and full-time, based in the Cairns region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients with complex medical, surgical and trauma conditions.
• Deliver advanced clinical care including medications, IV therapy, wound management and specialised interventions.
• Coordinate pre- and post-operative care, discharge planning and patient education.
• Monitor and manage deteriorating patients, including telemetry and delirium care.
• Support patients with activities of daily living while promoting recovery and independence.

Required profile

• Nurse Grade 5 classification.
• Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) evidence as required for employment, in line with legislation, government policy and directives.
