Registered Nurse Anaesthetics (Casual)

About the role

John Hunter Hospital's Anaesthetic and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join its Perioperative Services team. The role sits within a supportive perioperative team delivering safe, high-quality care across the surgical journey, with a 7-day rotating roster.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialised nursing care to patients throughout the anaesthetic and post-operative recovery journey.
• Monitor patients' clinical condition, vital signs and recovery after anaesthesia.
• Manage patient pain, administer medications and respond to post-operative complications.
• Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration and emergencies.
• Collaborate with anaesthetists, surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare clinical environments and equipment for procedures.
• Provide compassionate care, reassurance and clear communication to patients and their families.

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Postgraduate clinical experience in operating theatre or procedural unit nursing in an acute hospital.
• Confident in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Eligibility for permanent employment requires Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency or a New Zealand passport; visa sponsorship is not available.
