Registered Midwife - Birth Unit

About the role

Nepean Hospital, part of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, is looking for Registered Midwives to join its Birth Unit. The role supports women through labour, birth and the immediate postnatal period, working with obstetricians, neonatal clinicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The position is permanent full time or part time, up to 38 hours per week, with pay of $41.22-$57.88 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, woman-centred care throughout labour and birth, conducting maternal and fetal assessments and developing individualised plans of care.
• Monitor maternal observations, fetal wellbeing and labour progress, recognise deviations from expected progress and escalate concerns promptly.
• Support women to make informed decisions through respectful communication, informed consent and shared decision-making.
• Promote physiological birth and provide evidence-based support, including non-pharmacological pain relief and comfort measures where appropriate.

Required profile

• Current Division 1 registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated experience and clinical skill in midwifery, and the ability to provide person-centred, family-inclusive and culturally sensitive care.
• Commitment to professional development and continuous quality improvement.
• Ability to work a flexible roster, day, evening or night shifts across all days of the week.

Required skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organise and prioritise work and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
